Technology at SCOA
Radiation Oncology
Radiation oncology is the controlled use of radiation to treat and kill cancer. This is an essential part of your path toward healing, and you can feel confident in our technologies and techniques. We have been a pacesetter for continuous improvements in South Carolina and throughout the Southeast, being one of the first cancer centers in the nation to implement advanced radiation treatments. Some of our advanced radiation oncology technology includes:
B-Mode Acquisition & Targeting System
Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy
Image-guided Radiation Therapy
Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT)
Sterotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
Dignicap
SCOA is the only cancer center in the Midlands to provide the DigniCap Scalp Cooling System.
An FDA-cleared treatment to help minimize hair loss in patients with solid tumors who are undergoing chemotherapy, Dignicap is a temperature-regulated coolant that continuously circulates through a cooling cap to help reduce the effects of chemotherapy.
Here at SCOA, we are proud to offer this technology and help sustain your dignity throughout your fight with cancer.
Diagnostic Imaging
Diagnostic imaging allows our providers to look inside your body for clues about your cancer or medical condition. The more advanced the technology, the more accurate results, and diagnosis. At SCOA, we provide the latest equipment, machines, scanning, and technology to help you feel confident as we move forward with your condition.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Radiology Imaging Computed Tomography (CT)
Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
Gamma Knife®
SCOA is one of a limited number of private practices with access to Gamma Knife technology.
Our radiation oncologists and medical physicists work with neurosurgeons throughout South Carolina to provide care at the Gamma Knife Center of the Carolinas. There, they treat brain tumors, vascular abnormalities affecting blood vessels, and other neurologic conditions.
Gamma Knife technology uses precise beams of radiation to destroy tumors of the brain, head and neck. Because the Gamma Knife uses beams of radiation rather than complicated invasive surgery, patients can undergo treatment as outpatients and avoid a lengthy hospital stay.
You Deserve the Best Care
We are committed to the highest level of service, not only from our providers but also from the technology and tools available.
As a leader in the state of South Carolina, we take our commitment seriously to provide the latest advancements in technology. As cancer care evolves and improves, here at SCOA we are doing the same. You can trust us to use the latest technology to aid in your cancer diagnosis and treatment.
